Nissan GT-R
Specifications
– Did you see the newest Porsche 911 Turbo? Not since second gear. – –
And that’s no lie, this Nissan has scared the entire supercar world and sent it back to the drawing board. It’s not often we have a real moment of silence from a car, but this GT-R has done it. When all the buttons are set to “normal,” it’s a wonderful sports car for eating up many-and especially long-roads. Once you turn all the buttons on the center console to “R” position, it’s a whole different story. The suspension and steering become so reactive, that if you drive over a euro coin, you can tell if it was heads or tails! When you start her up you notice that she is not quite standard. MRT Performance has taken care of the GT-R and removed the Y-pipe. Needed? Nahh. Fun? Wow!!!
The 3.8 liter V6 Twin-turbo is assembled entirely by hand by one of four very specially trained Nissan mechanics called ‘Takumi’s’. To ensure that no dirt gets into the engine during production, they are assembled in a special climate-controlled high-pressure chamber. After assembly, -each gearbox- is specially customized for each engine. As Europeans, we thought we were accurate, but the Japanese exceed. When you get in and call the GT-R to life, besides the wonderful howl roar, you are also treated to many displays with even more functions. G-forces, boost, temperatures and even all the FIA circuits are part of the interface. If you think it looks like a Playstation that’s right; Polyphony Digital (designer of GranTourismo) designed the entire interface.
Another thing we find noteworthy is the design. This was the first sports car to be co-designed by a computer. The computer had one task, to be as aerodynamic as possible. And that worked out quite well, the GT-R has a Cd value of 0.26 (!). Compared to big names, this is extremely low (Ferrari Enzo 0.36, Porsche 911 GT2 0.34, Bugatti Veyron 0.39). This together with the huge downforce makes it a supercar killer. Jeremy Clarkson had to go to the hospital after driving the GT-R. Why? His neck couldn’t handle the G forces. So, want to treat yourself to one of the most noteworthy Cool Classics to-be? We have it, from the last ‘nice’ year of manufacture, in collector condition. You’re welcome to join us in the clubhouse! Don’t forget your neck-brace.
